Rodin and Camille Claudel exerted a mutual influence apparent on each other`s work. This pairing is similar in composition to Claudel`s Cacountala, shown the year before at the Salon. In Claudel`s piece, though, the woman moves in to welcome the embrace of her worshipping lover; Rodin`s woman coolly accepts the worship as her due.
